Early Life and Business
George William Lucas was born in Oxford on March 29, 1896. His parents were Percy William Lucas and Annette Lucy Lucas. He worked in the car industry for many years. During the Second World War, he was the leader of a group for car repair businesses. This group was called the National Joint Industrial Council of the Motor Vehicle Retail and Repairing Trade.
Becoming a Lord
On June 27, 1946, the Labour government gave George Lucas a special title. This title was Baron Lucas of Chilworth. It meant he became a member of the House of Lords. The House of Lords is part of the British Parliament. He received this title from the government led by Clement Attlee. The title was linked to Chilworth in the County of Southampton.
Working in Government
After becoming a Lord, George Lucas worked for the government.
- From 1948 to 1949, he was a Lord-in-waiting. This meant he helped the government in the House of Lords.
- From 1949 to 1950, he became the Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard. This was another important role in the House of Lords.
- From 1950 to 1951, he worked as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport. He helped manage transport for the country.

In 1917, Lord Lucas married Sonia Finkelstein. Her father, Marcus Finkelstein, was a successful businessman from Latvia. George William Lucas passed away in October 1967. He was 71 years old. His oldest son, Michael, became the next Baron. Michael later became a minister for the Conservative Party. His second son, Ivor Lucas, became a diplomat. A diplomat works for their country in other nations. Ivor served as the British Ambassador to Syria and Oman.
