This was his first time trying to become President of the United States. He wanted to win the Republican nomination for the 2016 election. On December 29, 2015, Pataki announced that he was ending his campaign for president.

In August 2014, George Pataki talked about possibly running for president. He was thinking about the Republican nomination for 2016. In January 2015, he told ABC News he had started a special group. This group was a political action committee (PAC). Its job was to help him explore and prepare for a possible presidential campaign.
