George Warren (born around 1801 – died 1884) was a British General. He played a big role in the wars in Afghanistan and India during the early 1800s.

Life and Military Career

George Warren was born in Topsham, Devon, England, around 1801. He joined the Honourable East India Company's army. This company was a powerful British trading group that also ruled parts of India.

Serving in India

Warren became part of the 1st Bengal European Regiment. This regiment later became known as the Royal Munster Fusiliers. He was stationed in India for many years.

In 1823, Lieutenant Warren arrived in Madras. Three years later, in 1826, he helped storm the Jungeena Gate at Bhurtpore. This was a major military attack.

Rising Through the Ranks

By 1839, Warren was a Brigadier. This is a high rank in the army. He described the difficult journey through the Bolan Pass. He said the soldiers looked like "an army retreating under every disaster." Supplies and personal items were scattered everywhere.

Later that year, he received a special award. It was called the Order of the Dooranee Empire, 3rd class. This award recognized his bravery and service.

Warren quickly became a General. He stayed in India until the early 1860s. After his long service, he moved back to the United Kingdom. He lived in different places, including Southsea, where he passed away.

Warren's Medals

His medals from the 1839 military campaign are now in a special collection. You can find them at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. They are part of the Watson Medal Collection.
