George De Witt Wright (born December 22, 1958) is an American former professional baseball player. He played for five seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1982 to 1986. During this time, he played for the Texas Rangers and the Montreal Expos. George Wright was mostly a center fielder, which means he played in the middle of the outfield.

George Wright's Baseball Career

George Wright's journey in professional baseball began in 1982. He joined the Texas Rangers and quickly became an important player. His skills as an outfielder helped his team a lot.

Playing for the Texas Rangers

The year 1983 was a very special one for George Wright. He had his best season while playing for the Texas Rangers. The team was doing surprisingly well and was even in first place by the All-Star break.

During that amazing year, George played in every single game, all 162 of them! He had a batting average of .287, which means he got a hit almost 29% of the time he tried. He also hit 18 Home runs and had 80 Runs batted in (RBI). An RBI means he helped a teammate score a run.

Later Seasons and New Teams

After his great year in 1983, George Wright faced some challenges. He was often injured in the seasons that followed. This made it hard for him to play as well as he did in his best year.

He later played for the Montreal Expos for a short time. After his time in Major League Baseball, George Wright went to play baseball in other countries. He spent two seasons in Japan with the Hawks. He played for them in 1988 when they were called the Nankai Hawks, and again in 1993 when they were known as the Daiei Hawks. He also played several seasons in the Mexican League between 1990 and 1997.
