George Yonashiro (与那城 ジョージ, Yonashiro Jōji, born November 28, 1950) is a former football player and manager. He was born in Brazil. He also played for the Japan national team.

Playing Career: George Yonashiro's Club Journey

George Yonashiro was born in São Paulo, Brazil, on November 28, 1950. He started his football journey in Japan in 1972. He joined a team called Yomiuri, which was in the second division of the Japan Soccer League.

Rising Through the Ranks

His team, Yomiuri, worked hard and was promoted to the first division in 1978. This was a big step for the club. In 1979, they won their first major title, the JSL Cup.

Winning Championships

George Yonashiro helped Yomiuri become a very successful team. They won the league championship twice, in 1983 and 1984. They also won the 1984 Emperor's Cup and another 1985 JSL Cup. George was known as one of the best players in the league. He was chosen for the "Best Eleven" team five times. He played 239 games and scored 93 goals for Yomiuri before he retired in 1986.

International Career: Playing for Japan

In January 1985, George Yonashiro became a Japanese citizen. This meant he could play for the Japan national team.

Making His Debut

In October 1985, when he was 34 years old, George was chosen to play for Japan. This was for the 1986 World Cup qualification matches. He played his first game for Japan on October 26 against South Korea. He played two games for Japan in total during 1985.

Coaching Career: Leading Teams to Success

After he stopped playing, George Yonashiro became a football manager. He started coaching his old team, Yomiuri, in 1986.

Success with Yomiuri

As a manager, George led Yomiuri to win the 1986–87 Japan Soccer League championship. They also won the Emperor's Cup in 1986 and 1987. In Asia, his team won the 1987 Asian Club Championship. He left Yomiuri in 1990.

Coaching Other Clubs

George Yonashiro continued his coaching career with several other teams.

George Yonashiro has had a long and successful career both as a player and a manager in Japanese football.
