George Yonashiro (与那城 ジョージ, Yonashiro Jōji, born November 28, 1950) is a famous former football player and manager. He was born in São Paulo, Brazil. He later played for the Japan national team. After his playing career, he became a successful coach for many Japanese clubs.

A Star Player: George Yonashiro's Club Career
George Yonashiro was born in São Paulo, Brazil, on November 28, 1950. He loved football from a young age. In 1972, he moved to Japan. He joined a football club called Yomiuri. At that time, Yomiuri was in Division 2 of the Japan Soccer League.
George helped his team a lot. In 1978, Yomiuri moved up to Division 1. This was a big achievement! The team started winning many trophies. In 1979, they won their first major title, the JSL Cup.
Yomiuri became one of the best teams in Japan. They won the league championship twice in a row. This happened in 1983 and 1984. They also won the 1984 Emperor's Cup and another 1985 JSL Cup. George was a key player during these winning years. He played 239 games and scored 93 goals for Yomiuri. He was chosen as one of the best players (Best Eleven) five times. George Yonashiro retired from playing in 1986.
Playing for Japan: International Career
George Yonashiro became a Japanese citizen in January 1985. This meant he could play for the Japan national team. In October of that year, when he was 34 years old, he was chosen for the national team. This was for the 1986 World Cup qualification matches.
His first game for Japan was on October 26. He played against South Korea. In total, he played two games for Japan in 1985. It was a special moment for him to represent his new home country.
From Player to Coach: George Yonashiro's Coaching Career
After he stopped playing, George Yonashiro became a football manager. He started coaching his old club, Yomiuri, in 1986. He was a very successful coach! He led Yomiuri to win the 1986–87 Japan Soccer League title. His team also won the Emperor's Cup in 1986 and 1987.
Yomiuri even won an international title, the 1987 Asian Club Championship. George left Yomiuri in 1990. He later coached other teams. In 1994 and 1996, he managed Kyoto Purple Sanga.
George also helped smaller clubs grow. In 2004, he joined FC Ryukyu. He helped them move up to higher leagues. They went from Prefectural Leagues to Regional Leagues in 2005. Then they reached the Japan Football League in 2006.
In 2007, he moved to Giravanz Kitakyushu. He helped this club get promoted too. They reached the Japan Football League in 2008 and the J2 League in 2010. He left the club at the end of the 2010 season.
In 2013, he coached Blaublitz Akita. He helped them get promoted to the new J3 League in 2014. George Yonashiro is known for helping many teams improve and move up in the Japanese football system.
