A Chef from a Young Age

Georges Perrier discovered his love for cooking when he was only 12 years old. His first big dish was "Sweetbreads with Mushrooms and Madeira." After making that meal, he knew he wanted to be a chef.

Just two years later, at age 14, he began his training. He learned from some of the best chefs in France. He worked at several top restaurants, including one owned by the legendary chef Fernand Point.

In 1967, Perrier moved to the United States to work as a head chef. Three years later, in 1970, he opened his own restaurant, Le Bec-Fin. It specialized in high-quality French seafood dishes. The restaurant was so successful that it moved to a bigger location on Walnut Street in 1983.

Le Bec-Fin quickly became known as one of the best restaurants in the entire country. It won many prestigious awards. For over 20 years, it earned a Five-Star rating from the Mobil Travel Guide. It also received a Five-Diamond rating from AAA since 1989.

Readers of major magazines like Gourmet and Conde Nast Traveler voted it as the number one restaurant. At Le Bec-Fin, Perrier created amazing dishes like the galette de crabe, his special French version of an American crab cake.

After 43 successful years, the restaurant closed in 2013.
