Georgia Scorcher at RCDB |
The Georgia Scorcher is an exciting roller coaster located at Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park. It's special because it's a "stand-up" coaster, meaning you ride it standing up instead of sitting down! This thrilling ride was built by a company called Bolliger & Mabillard. It opened on May 8, 1999.
The Georgia Scorcher is 107 feet (about 33 meters) tall. It has a track that stretches 3000 feet (about 910 meters) long. When you ride it, you can reach a top speed of 54 miles per hour (about 87 kilometers per hour)! The ride's fun slogan is "Put your feet to the fire."
History of the Ride
The Georgia Scorcher is the third big ride to be built in its spot at Six Flags Over Georgia. Before the Scorcher, there was a water slide tower called Ragin' Rivers. That slide opened in 1991. Even before that, there was a log flume ride called Log Jamboree.
When the Georgia Scorcher first opened, its track was bright yellow. The tall supports holding up the track were purple. But in 2019, the park gave the ride a fresh new look. The track was painted a cool cherry red, and the supports became a dark gray color.
What the Ride is Like
Your adventure on the Georgia Scorcher begins when the train leaves the station. It then starts a slow climb up a 107-foot (33-meter) tall lift hill. This is where the chain pulls you to the very top!
After reaching the peak, the train drops down a thrilling 101-foot (31-meter) hill. Right after this drop, you'll go through an 81-foot (25-meter) tall vertical loop. This loop turns you completely upside down!
Next, the coaster climbs up and turns to the right. It circles back towards the station for a moment. Then, it dives sharply down to the left. Here, you'll enter something called an "inclined loop." This loop also goes through the middle of the first vertical loop, but it doesn't turn you completely upside down.
After the inclined loop, the coaster goes up a small hill. Then, it twists you over onto your right side. As you twist back, you enter the second inversion: a corkscrew. This element spins you around like a corkscrew!
Finally, the roller coaster climbs up to the left, crossing over the start of the lift hill. It then dives down and makes a big, low-to-the-ground 270-degree turn called a helix. After this turn, it rises one last time before entering the brake run. The brakes slow the train down, and you make a U-turn to the left before returning safely to the station.
