Gerald Bray's Education and Teaching
Gerald Bray was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He studied at McGill University and earned a BA degree. He also studied at the University of Paris-Sorbonne in France. There, he earned two advanced degrees, an MLitt and a DLitt.
Early Career and Ordination
From 1975 to 1978, Mr. Bray worked as a librarian. He was at Tyndale House in Cambridge, England. In 1978, he became a priest in the Church of England. He served in a church called St Cedd in Canning Town until 1980.
Teaching History and Religion
From 1980 to 1992, Gerald Bray taught at Oak Hill Theological College in London. He taught about the history of the church and religious beliefs. In 1993, he started teaching at Beeson Divinity School. He is now a special professor there, focusing on research. He is also a respected professor of Historical Theology at Knox Theological Seminary. Mr. Bray helps lead research at the Latimer Trust, which is also at Oak Hill Theological College in London.

Books on Church Law
He has written a lot about the history of church laws in the Church of England. These laws are called canon law. He wrote two major books on this topic: The Anglican Canons 1529-1947 and Tudor Church Reform. These books were supported by the Church of England Record Society. He also put together old records from church meetings in England and Ireland. From 1983 to 2018, Mr. Bray was the editor of an academic magazine called Churchman.

Some of his most important recent books include God is Love, a Biblical and Systematic Theology. This book was published in 2012 by Crossway. Another key book is God has spoken. A history of Christian theology, also published by Crossway in 2014.
Since then, he has continued to publish many books. In 2015, he published Augustine and the Christian Life. In 2016, he released The Church: A theological and historical account. He also prepared a special edition of the Church of England's Books of Homilies in 2016. In 2017, he published a critical edition of a French historical document from 1788. This document is important for understanding the time before the French Revolution.
In 2021, he published a big study called The History of Christianity in Britain and Ireland. In the same year, he also released The Attributes of God and Anglicanism. His book, A Companion to the Book of Common Prayer, was published in 2023. It helps students and others understand the classic 1662 Prayer Book of the Church of England.
