Gerald Lewis Bray was born on November 16, 1948. He is a British expert in religion and history. He is also a priest in the Church of England.

Gerald Bray's Education and Teaching

Gerald Bray was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He studied at McGill University and earned a BA degree. He also studied at the University of Paris-Sorbonne in France. There, he earned two advanced degrees, an MLitt and a DLitt.

Early Career and Ordination

From 1975 to 1978, Mr. Bray worked as a librarian. He was at Tyndale House in Cambridge, England. In 1978, he became a priest in the Church of England. He served in a church called St Cedd in Canning Town until 1980.

Teaching History and Religion

From 1980 to 1992, Gerald Bray taught at Oak Hill Theological College in London. He taught about the history of the church and religious beliefs. In 1993, he started teaching at Beeson Divinity School. He is now a special professor there, focusing on research. He is also a respected professor of Historical Theology at Knox Theological Seminary. Mr. Bray helps lead research at the Latimer Trust, which is also at Oak Hill Theological College in London.

Since then, he has continued to publish many books. In 2015, he published Augustine and the Christian Life. In 2016, he released The Church: A theological and historical account. He also prepared a special edition of the Church of England's Books of Homilies in 2016. In 2017, he published a critical edition of a French historical document from 1788. This document is important for understanding the time before the French Revolution.

In 2021, he published a big study called The History of Christianity in Britain and Ireland. In the same year, he also released The Attributes of God and Anglicanism.
