Jerome McKinley "Gerald" Henderson Sr. (born January 16, 1956) is a famous American former professional basketball player. He played as a guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 13 years, from 1979 to 1992. During his career, he played for several well-known teams, including the Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, and Houston Rockets. Henderson was born in Richmond, Virginia, and went to Virginia Commonwealth University.

Key Moments in His NBA Career
The Famous Steal in the 1984 NBA Finals
Gerald Henderson is especially remembered for an amazing play in Game 2 of the 1984 NBA Finals. This was a big game between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. With only 13 seconds left, the Celtics were down by two points.
Henderson stole a pass from Lakers star James Worthy. He then quickly dribbled down the court and made a layup, tying the game! The Celtics went on to win that game in overtime. This play was a huge moment in the series.
Winning the 1990 NBA Championship
Henderson also played a key role in the 1990 NBA Finals when he was with the Detroit Pistons. In Game 4, the Pistons were playing against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Pistons were ahead by just one point.
With only a second left, Henderson made a fast-break layup. This pushed the Pistons' lead to three points. The Trail Blazers tried a last-second shot, but it was too late. The Pistons won that game and went on to win the championship. This was Henderson's third NBA title!
Life After Basketball
After retiring from basketball, Gerald Henderson started a new career. As of 2006, he and his wife run a real estate business. They live in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.
Gerald Henderson also has a son, Gerald Henderson Jr., who followed in his footsteps. Gerald Jr. was also a professional basketball player. He was picked by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2009 NBA draft. Gerald Jr. played eight seasons in the NBA for teams like the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Philadelphia 76ers.
In 2012, Gerald Henderson Sr. was honored for his great career. He was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. This is a special place that celebrates athletes from Virginia.
