In September 2013, the Giants decided not to keep Gerald on their team. He had played three AFL games during his two years with the club.

After His AFL Career

After leaving the Giants, Gerald Ugle returned to the WAFL. He signed a two-year contract with the Perth Demons in November 2013. However, after one season with Perth, Gerald moved to the Peel Thunder for the 2015 season.

In 2016, Gerald Ugle was chosen to be the captain of Peel Thunder. He took over after the previous captain, Brendon Jones, retired. Gerald led Peel Thunder to win two WAFL premierships in a row. They won in 2016 and 2017, beating Subiaco both times.

For the 2019 season, Gerald Ugle decided to step down as captain. Ben Howlett became the new captain. Gerald took on a role to help guide the team's leadership group.
