Geron Marquis Johnson, born on August 9, 1992, is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for two seasons at the University of Memphis. Before that, he played at two different community colleges.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Geron Johnson grew up in Dayton, Ohio, raised by his mother, Duana Hancock. He attended Dunbar High School. After his second year, his mother asked former NBA player Sedric Toney to help mentor him.
High School Achievements
In his junior year (2008–09), Geron averaged 18.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2.9 steals per game. He was named the Dayton City League Player of the Year.
During his senior year (2009–10), he averaged 16.8 points, 4.6 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals. He helped lead Dunbar to an impressive 25–3 record. He also earned the Dayton Daily News Division 2 Player of the Year award. Geron was considered a top recruit for the class of 2010 and led Dunbar to a state championship in his senior year. However, due to some challenges, he first played at a junior college instead of going straight to an NCAA Division 1 school.
College Basketball Journey
Geron Johnson's college career began at Chipola College in 2010–11. As a freshman, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He helped his team, the Indians, achieve a 25–6 record and win the Panhandle Conference championship. He later left the team.
Playing at Garden City Community College
For his sophomore year (2011–12), Geron played at Garden City Community College. He averaged 19.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 25 games. He helped the Broncbusters to a 17–12 record. He faced difficulties that led to him leaving the college. Geron later shared that he was worried he wouldn't get another chance to play college basketball. He was glad for the opportunity to keep working towards his goals.
Joining the Memphis Tigers
On April 14, 2012, Geron signed to play college basketball for the University of Memphis. Coach Josh Pastner recruited him to join the team. Geron was seen as one of the best junior college players in the country. Coach Pastner put in place special rules, like a midnight curfew and regular academic checks, to help Geron succeed.
Before his junior season, Geron faced a brief suspension from the NCAA. As a junior at Memphis in 2012–13, he played in 33 games and started 26 of them. He averaged 10.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He earned third-team All-Conference USA honors. He scored a career-high 21 points in a big win against Ohio. In the NCAA Tournament, he scored a team-high 16 points in their final game against Michigan State. Off the court, Geron also volunteered in the community, reading to young children. He was recognized for his good grades.
In his senior year (2013–14), Geron started 33 out of 34 games. He averaged 8.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He helped Memphis achieve a 24–10 record. In May 2014, he earned his bachelor's degree.
Professional Basketball Career
After the 2014 NBA draft, where he was not selected, Geron Johnson joined the Houston Rockets for the 2014 NBA Summer League. He signed with the Rockets in October 2014 but was waived a few days later.
Playing in the NBA Development League
On November 2, 2014, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League (now G League) acquired him. In 33 games for the Vipers during the 2014–15 season, he averaged 5.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. In July 2015, Geron also played for the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2015 NBA Summer League.
International Play
On May 26, 2018, Geron signed with Halcones de Ciudad Obregón in Mexico's CIBACOPA league. He averaged 15.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in 25 games. His team made it to the CIBACOPA final.
Geron then signed with Al Rayyan SC in the Qatari Basketball League on December 15, 2018. On August 9, 2019, he signed with Al Mouttahed Tripoli in the Lebanese Basketball League.
