Gerry Cott was born on October 15, 1954, in Dublin, Ireland. He is a talented guitarist and songwriter. Gerry was one of the people who helped start the famous Irish new wave band called The Boomtown Rats.
He began playing the flamenco guitar when he was just 11 years old. A big moment for him was seeing Bob Dylan perform live in Dublin in 1966. This experience really changed his musical path.

Gerry Cott's Music Journey
Starting with The Boomtown Rats
Gerry Cott was a key member of The Boomtown Rats. This band became very popular in the new wave music scene. He played guitar and helped write songs for the group.
Leaving the Band and Solo Work
Gerry left The Boomtown Rats in 1982. After leaving, he released his own five-song album in 1984. It was called I Left My Hat in Haiti. This album included a song named "Alphabet Town". "Alphabet Town" even made it onto the music charts in Canada.
In 2010, Gerry Cott released another album. This one was an acoustic guitar album called Urban Soundscapes. It featured his solo guitar playing.
Reuniting on Stage
On September 20, 2011, Gerry Cott performed live with Bob Geldof. Bob Geldof was the lead singer of The Boomtown Rats. They played together at Cadogan Hall in London. It was the first time they had been on stage together in over 30 years.
Gerry Cott's Work with Animals
Besides music, Gerry Cott also works with animals. As of 2008, he was an animal trainer. He also supervised animal actions in movies and television shows. His company is called A-Z Animals. He was also reportedly writing a book.
