Gerry Cott was born on October 15, 1954, in Dublin, Ireland. He is an Irish guitarist and songwriter. He helped start the new wave band called The Boomtown Rats.

Early Musical Journey
Gerry started playing flamenco guitar when he was just 11 years old. In 1966, he saw the famous musician Bob Dylan play live in Dublin. This concert really inspired him and changed his musical path.
Time with The Boomtown Rats
Gerry Cott was a key member of The Boomtown Rats. He played guitar for the band. He left the group in 1982. This was before they recorded their fifth album, V Deep.
Solo Music and Projects
In 1984, Gerry released a five-song album. It was called I Left My Hat in Haiti. This album included the song "Alphabet Town". "Alphabet Town" became popular in Canada. It reached number 90 on the music charts.
In 2010, Gerry released another album. This one was an acoustic guitar album. It was titled Urban Soundscapes.
Working with Animals
By 2008, Gerry Cott started a new career. He began working with animals for movies and TV shows. His company is called A-Z Animals. He trains animals and helps direct their actions on screen. He was also reportedly writing a book around this time.
Recent Performances
On September 20, 2011, Gerry Cott performed live again. He joined Bob Geldof on stage. This happened at Cadogan Hall in London. They played the last three songs of the show together. Bob Geldof said it was their first time on stage together in over 30 years.
