Virginio "Gerry" Scotti is a famous Italian television presenter and actor. He was born on August 7, 1956. He has hosted many popular TV shows in Italy and was even a member of the Italian Parliament for a few years.

Gerry Scotti's Early Career

Gerry Scotti was born Virginio Scotti in a small town called Camporinaldo, near Pavia, Italy. He first started his career as a disc jockey (DJ) at a radio station called Radio Milano International.

In 1982, he moved to another radio station, Radio DeeJay. A year later, he became the host of DeeJay Television. This was the first Italian TV show that played music videos. Gerry also hosted other music shows, like the popular Festivalbar.

Hosting Popular Quiz Shows

Gerry has hosted the Italian versions of many famous quiz shows. These include Chi vuol essere milionario?, which is like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. He also hosted Passaparola, similar to The Alphabet Game. Another big show he presented was The Money Drop.

Other Entertainment Shows

Besides quiz shows, Gerry has hosted many other fun entertainment programs. Some of these are La sai l'ultima?, La Corrida, and Paperissima. He also co-hosted the funny satirical show Striscia la Notizia.

In 2008, Gerry returned to radio at R101. He also became a leader in a big radio company. He continued to host popular shows like Avanti un Altro! with Paolo Bonolis in 2014 and 2015. In 2015, he presented Guinness World Record and Caduta libera, which is the Italian version of Who's Still Standing. These shows were very successful.

More recently, in 2017, he hosted The Winner Is. In December 2017, he started presenting the Italian version of the American game show The Wall. In January 2018, he briefly returned to host Striscia la notizia. He also co-hosted the first night of the Sanremo Music Festival 2025.

He won the Italian television Telegatto prize many times. He received this award in 1984, 1985, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2007. In 2008, he won a special platinum Telegatto award for his excellent career.

Guinness World Record

In 2011, Gerry Scotti was mentioned in the Guinness World Records. He earned this honor for being the TV host who presented the most episodes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?.

Gerry Scotti's Personal Life

Gerry Scotti was married to Patrizia Grosso. They had one son named Edoardo in 1992. Since 2011, Gerry has been in a relationship with Gabriella Perino. His son, Edoardo, has two children, born in 2020 and 2023.

In October 2020, Gerry Scotti tested positive for COVID-19 and spent some time in the hospital. He has since recovered and is doing well.
