The Story of Toy Story 3
Andy Grows Up
The movie starts with Andy, who is now 17 years old. He is getting ready to go to college. His toys, like Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the others, haven't been played with in a long time. They feel sad and forgotten. Andy plans to take Woody, his favorite toy, with him to college. He wants to put the other toys in the attic for storage.
A Big Mix-Up
But there's a misunderstanding! Andy's mom accidentally throws the box of toys away. The toys think Andy doesn't want them anymore. They quickly escape the trash and decide to go to a daycare center called Sunnyside. Woody tries to tell them it's a mistake, but they don't listen. So, they all end up at Sunnyside.
New Friends at Sunnyside
At Sunnyside, many toys welcome Andy's toys. A friendly-looking bear named Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear, or "Lotso," gives them a tour. He shows them the seemingly perfect play area. Lotso's helpers are Big Baby and a smooth-talking doll named Ken. Barbie, one of Andy's toys, quickly falls in love with Ken. All of Andy's toys are excited about their new home. Woody, however, still wants to go back to Andy.
Woody's New Adventure
Woody tries to leave Sunnyside on his own. A little girl named Bonnie Anderson finds him outside the daycare. She takes Woody home and plays with him. Bonnie's toys are very kind and well-treated. Woody is happy there until he hears a surprising story from Chuckles the Clown.
Lotso's Secret Past
Chuckles tells Woody that Lotso, Big Baby, and he once belonged to a girl named Daisy. They got lost by accident. When they found their way back to Daisy's house, Lotso saw that he had been replaced by a new toy. This made Lotso very bitter and angry. Even though Chuckles knew the truth, Lotso convinced Big Baby that they were abandoned. Lotso then took over Sunnyside Daycare. He ruled the toys there like a boss in a crime movie.
A Daring Escape Plan
Woody realizes his friends are in danger. He hurries back to Sunnyside. He finds his friends being played with by very young, rough toddlers. They are also guarded at night by Buzz. Lotso has changed Buzz's settings, making him think he's a Space Ranger again. Woody rejoins his friends, and they make a plan to escape through the garbage dumpster.
Challenges and Heroes
During their escape, Buzz accidentally gets set to a Spanish-speaking mode. The toys reach the dumpster, but Lotso and his helpers stop them. As a garbage truck arrives, Woody tells Big Baby the truth about Lotso. Big Baby, Ken, and other Sunnyside toys turn against Lotso and push him into the dumpster. But Lotso pulls Woody in with him!
Woody's friends jump into the truck to save him. Buzz gets hit by a TV while saving Jessie, and he finally returns to his normal self. The toys end up at a landfill, heading towards an incinerator (a place where trash is burned). They help Lotso reach an emergency stop button, but he escapes and leaves them to burn. Just when they think it's the end, the squeeze toy aliens save them with a giant crane!
Back to Andy and New Beginnings
The toys return to Andy's house. Woody has an idea and leaves a note for Andy on the toy box. Andy thinks the note is from his mom. He takes the box to Bonnie's house. Andy introduces his old toys to Bonnie and gives them to her. Bonnie is surprised and happy to see Woody at the bottom of the box. Andy is a little sad to give Woody away but does so. He then plays with Bonnie and his old toys one last time before leaving for college. Woody watches Andy's car drive away and quietly says, "So long, partner."
Woody and the other toys are happy to be wanted and played with again by Bonnie. They later learn that Barbie, Ken, and Big Baby have made Sunnyside a much better place for all the toys there.
