Many of the original voice actors returned, including Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz. New voices joined the cast, like Joan Cusack and Kelsey Grammer.
Even though making the movie was tricky, Toy Story 2 was a huge hit! It earned over $497 million worldwide. The story continued with Toy Story 3 in 2010, which was also very successful. Another movie, Toy Story 4, came out in 2019.

The Story of Toy Story 2
Andy is getting ready to go to cowboy camp with his favorite toy, Woody. While playing, Andy accidentally rips Woody's arm. Because of this, Andy's mom puts Woody on a shelf. Andy then leaves for camp without his cowboy doll.
The next day, Woody has a bad dream about being thrown away. He finds Wheezy, a squeaky toy, who has been on the shelf for months because his squeaker is broken. When Andy's mom puts Wheezy in a yard sale, Woody bravely saves him. But before they can get back inside, a greedy toy collector steals Woody!
Andy's other toys see a TV commercial and figure out the thief is Al McWhiggin, who owns a toy store called Al's Toy Barn. Buzz Lightyear, Hamm, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, and Rex all set out on a mission to rescue Woody.
Woody's New Friends
At Al's apartment, Woody discovers he is a very special toy. He's based on an old black-and-white TV show called Woody's Roundup. He meets other toys from the show: Jessie the cowgirl, Bullseye the horse, and Stinky Pete the Prospector. These toys are all set to be sold to a toy museum in Tokyo, Japan.
Woody wants to go home to Andy, but the others are excited about the museum. Stinky Pete explains that the museum only wants the complete Woody's Roundup collection. If Woody doesn't go, they will all be put back in storage forever.
Later, Woody's arm gets completely torn off. He tries to get it back, but Al's TV turns on by accident. Woody blames Jessie for this when he sees the remote near her. The next morning, a special toy repair expert fixes Woody's arm.
Woody learns that Jessie once belonged to a girl named Emily. Emily eventually grew up and didn't play with Jessie anymore, so she gave her away. Stinky Pete warns Woody that the same thing will happen with Andy. He tells Woody that in the museum, he will last forever. Hearing this, Woody decides to go to Japan.
The Rescue Mission
Meanwhile, Buzz and the other toys arrive at Al's Toy Barn. While looking for Woody, Buzz gets trapped by another Buzz Lightyear toy, called Utility Belt Buzz. This new Buzz thinks Andy's Buzz is a bad space ranger. Utility Belt Buzz then joins Andy's toys, who think he is their Buzz.
After finding out Al's plan, they head to his apartment. Andy's Buzz escapes and follows them. He accidentally frees an Emperor Zurg toy, who then chases him, wanting to destroy him. When the toys find Woody, Andy's Buzz joins them and proves who he really is. But Woody still refuses to go home.
Buzz reminds Woody that a toy's most important job is to be played with. He tells Woody he would never get to be played with in a museum. After seeing a boy playing with him on the Woody's Roundup show, Woody changes his mind. He asks Jessie, Bullseye, and Stinky Pete to come home with him to Andy.
However, Stinky Pete stops them. He has never been loved or played with, and he really wants to go to Japan. He admits that he was the one who stopped Woody from escaping earlier and made it look like Jessie did it. Then Al returns, puts the Woody's Roundup gang in a suitcase, and leaves for the airport.
The Airport Chase
Andy's toys chase Al, but Emperor Zurg catches them. Zurg battles Utility Belt Buzz and reveals he is Buzz's father! Rex accidentally knocks Zurg off an elevator. Utility Belt Buzz decides to stay behind with Zurg.
Andy's toys, along with three toy Aliens, steal a Pizza Planet delivery truck. They follow Al to the airport. They sneak into the baggage area and find Al's suitcase. During a struggle, Stinky Pete rips Woody's arm. But Andy's toys manage to stuff Stinky Pete into a little girl's backpack.
They free Bullseye, but Jessie ends up on the plane going to Japan. With help from Buzz and Bullseye, Woody saves Jessie. The toys then return home in a stolen baggage cart.
When Andy comes back from camp, he is happy to have Jessie, Bullseye, and the Aliens as his new toys. He also fixes Woody's arm. Al is very upset because he failed to sell the Woody's Roundup gang. Wheezy's squeaker also gets fixed! Woody tells Buzz that he's not worried about Andy growing up anymore. He knows that even when Andy does, they will always have each other.
