Gervase Peterson on Survivor
His First Season: Borneo
During the first Survivor season, Survivor: Borneo, Gervase was part of the Pagong tribe. His strategy was to save his energy for later challenges. Some people thought he was lazy, but he said it was all part of his plan.
One time, he and his tribe had to eat cooked rat to survive. In one episode, Gervase made a comment that was not very nice about women. His teammate, Joel Klug, laughed at the comment. Because of this, the women in their tribe thought Joel made the comment. They voted Joel off the island next.
Later, the two tribes, Pagong and Tagi, joined together to form Rattana. Gervase and the other Pagong members did not know that some Tagi members had formed a secret alliance. This group included Richard Hatch, Kelly Wiglesworth, Rudy Boesch, and Susan Hawk. This alliance was very strong. They voted off Gervase and the other Pagong members one by one. Gervase was eliminated before the very end. At the final vote, he chose Kelly Wiglesworth to win. However, Richard Hatch won the season.
During Survivor: Borneo, there was a rumor that a hacker found out who the winner was. A picture on the CBS Survivor website showed an "X" over everyone's photo except Gervase's. Many people thought this meant Gervase was the winner. But a few episodes later, he was voted off. CBS later said they did this on purpose to trick viewers. This helped keep the real winner's identity a secret.
Returning for Blood vs. Water
Gervase came back to Survivor for its 27th season, Survivor: Blood vs. Water. This season was special because contestants played with a family member. Gervase played with his niece, Marissa. Gervase joined the Galang tribe, which had past Survivor players. Marissa joined the Tadhana tribe, made up of the loved ones.
After Gervase's tribe won their first challenge, he celebrated a lot. The other tribe, Tadhana, got upset. They decided to vote out Marissa as a way to get back at Gervase. Marissa then went to Redemption Island, where players could try to get back into the game. She lost a challenge there and was eliminated from the show. She finished in 17th place.
Later in the game, Gervase switched to the Tadhana tribe. He eventually made it to the merged tribe, Kasama. Throughout the season, he worked closely with the alliance leader, Tyson Apostol. In one of the last Tribal Councils, Tyson gave his hidden immunity idol to Gervase. Gervase used it to cancel out votes against him, which saved him. Gervase made it to the Final Three with Tyson Apostol and Monica Culpepper. However, Gervase did not receive any votes from the jury. Tyson Apostol won the game.
