Ghaziabad district is a busy area in northern India. It is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh. This district is part of the National Capital Region, which includes Delhi. The main town, also called Ghaziabad, is where the district's government offices are. Many people who work in Delhi live in Ghaziabad. It's like a "bedroom community" for Delhi. Ghaziabad district is also part of Uttar Pradesh's Meerut Division.

History of Ghaziabad District

Ghaziabad district has changed its size over time. It was once a part of Meerut District. Later, it became its own district. At first, it covered an area of 2550 square kilometers.

Over the years, parts of Ghaziabad district were separated to form new districts. First, Gautam Buddh Nagar district was created. This made Ghaziabad district smaller, reducing its area to 1933.3 square kilometers.

In September 2011, two more parts (called tehsils) were separated. They formed a new district called Hapur district. After these changes, the area of Ghaziabad district became 1273 square kilometers. Its population was then 3,323,241 people.

In 2011, Ghaziabad district had a population of 4,661,452 people. This number is similar to the population of a country like Ireland. It means Ghaziabad ranks 28th in population among all 640 districts in India.

The district is very crowded. It has about 3,967 people living in every square kilometer. This is one of the highest population densities in Uttar Pradesh. Between 2001 and 2011, the population grew by 41.66%.

For every 1000 males, there were 878 females in Ghaziabad. This is called the sex ratio. The district also has a high literacy rate of 85%. This means most people can read and write. After Hapur district was formed, the population of Ghaziabad district was revised to 3,323,241.
