Giovanni (Gian) Giacomo Teodoro Trivulzio (born 1597 – died 1656) was an important Italian Cardinal. He held many high-ranking jobs for the Spanish Crown during his life.
Gian Giacomo Teodoro Trivulzio was born and died in Milan, which was then part of the Duchy of Milan. His father was Carlo Emanuele Teodoro Trivulzio, the Count of Melzo. His mother was Catherina Gonzaga. Sadly, his father passed away when Gian Giacomo was very young. He also had a sister named Ippolita Trivulzio.
In 1615, Gian Giacomo married Giovanna Maria Grimaldi. She was the daughter of Hercule, Lord of Monaco.
They had three children together:

- Caterina
- Ercole Teodoro, who became a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece.

A New Path
After his wife died in 1620, Gian Giacomo decided to join the Church. He became a cardinal in 1629. This was a very important position in the Catholic Church.

Gian Giacomo Teodoro Trivulzio held several powerful positions during his career. These roles showed his skill and importance to the Spanish Crown.
Viceroy of Aragon
In 1642, he became the Viceroy of Aragon. A viceroy was like a governor who ruled a country or province in the name of the king. He also became a Grandee of Spain, which was a very high noble title.
Papal Elections
Gian Giacomo took part in two important elections for a new Pope. These meetings are called papal conclaves.
- He was part of the Papal conclave, 1644. This meeting chose Pope Innocent X as the new leader of the Catholic Church.
- He also participated in the Papal conclave, 1655. This conclave elected Pope Alexander VII. As the protodeacon, Gian Giacomo had the special job of announcing "Habemus Papam" (We have a Pope!) to the world.
Viceroy of Sicily and Sardinia
From 1647 to 1649, Gian Giacomo served as the Viceroy of Sicily. After that, he was the Viceroy of Sardinia from 1649 to 1651.
Governor of Milan
In April 1656, he became the temporary Governor of the Duchy of Milan. He held this important job until his death.
Gian Giacomo Teodoro Trivulzio passed away in Milan on August 3, 1656. He was buried in his family's special burial place at the Santo Stefano church.
