Gibbons Bagnall was born in 1719. His father was also named Gibbons Bagnall and lived in Windsor, England. Young Gibbons went to Balliol College, Oxford in 1738. This is a famous university in England. He earned his first degree there in 1741. Later, he continued his studies at King's College, Cambridge. He received another degree, a Master of Arts, in 1760.

His Career as a Church Leader and Teacher

After finishing his studies, Gibbons Bagnall became a priest. He served as the vicar of Holm Lacy in Herefordshire. A vicar is a type of church leader. He also became the head-master of a free school in Hereford. This means he was in charge of a school that didn't charge fees. In 1760, he was given a special role called a prebend in the church of Hereford. This was for a place called Piona Parva. Later, in 1767, he received another prebend for Barsham in the same church. He also held the position of rector for a time in Upton Bishop. A rector is another type of church leader. In 1783, he was appointed as the vicar of Sellack. He continued his work until his death. Gibbons Bagnall passed away on December 31, 1800. He was 81 years old.
