About Gidleigh Park
Gidleigh Park is set in a large area of 107 acres. That's like having over 80 football fields of space! It includes lovely gardens and thick woodlands. The main building looks like an old country house built in the Tudor style.
In 1978, Paul and Kay Henderson bought the property. Later, in 2005, a businessman named Andrew Brownsword became the new owner. He made some big changes in 2007. He updated both the restaurant and the hotel. He also added ten more bedrooms for guests.
Famous Chefs at Gidleigh Park
Many talented chefs have worked at Gidleigh Park. These chefs help make the restaurant very famous.
One well-known chef was Michael Caines. He became the head chef in 1994. He stayed for 21 years, which is a very long time! He left in 2016 to start his own food businesses.
After Michael Caines, other great chefs took over. Michael Wignall was the Executive Head Chef starting in 2016. Then, in 2018, Chris Simpson became the Executive Head Chef for about a year.
Today, Chris Eden is the Executive Head Chef. He joined Gidleigh Park in September 2019. Before this, he worked at another famous restaurant called Driftwood for 12 years. That restaurant even had a special award called a Michelin star for many years.
