Gifford is a small place in Nez Perce County, Idaho, in the United States. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Gifford is about 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) northeast of a town called Culdesac.
The community of Gifford was started in 1901. A man named Seth Gifford, who was a homesteader (someone who settled on land given by the government), had moved to this area six years earlier. Gifford used to have its own post office from 1901 until 1965. It also had a school that taught local kids from 1896 until 1961.
A Look Back in Time
Gifford has always been a small community. In 1909, about 50 people lived there. Many years later, in 1960, the population was still around 50 people. This shows that Gifford has kept its small, close-knit community feel over the decades.
