Gilbert de Umfraville was an important English noble who lived in the 1200s. He was the oldest son of Richard de Umfraville, who was the Lord of Redesdale. When his father passed away in November 1226, Gilbert took over his titles. He became the Lord of Redesdale and the Baron of Prudhoe. His main home was Prudhoe Castle. Gilbert also owned land in a place called Otterburn.

Gilbert de Umfraville became a powerful noble in November 1226. This happened after his father, Richard de Umfraville, died. Gilbert then inherited the titles of Lord of Redesdale and Baron of Prudhoe.
In 1228, King Henry III called upon Gilbert for help. The King needed support for a military campaign in Wales. This campaign was known as the 'Kerry' campaign. Gilbert and other nobles were told to gather their forces. They met in a town called Shrewsbury. Their mission was to help the English soldiers at Montgomery Castle. These soldiers were under attack by forces led by Llywelyn ab Iorwerth.

- He first married a woman named Theophania de Balliol. She was the daughter of Eustace de Balliol and Agnes de Percy.
- His second marriage was to Matilda of Angus. Matilda was the daughter of Máel Coluim, Earl of Angus and Mary de Berkeley. Gilbert and Matilda had one son together:
- Gilbert was their son. He later married Elizabeth Comyn. She was the daughter of Alexander Comyn, Earl of Buchan. This younger Gilbert also had children. He passed away in the year 1308.
