History of Gillingham
Gillingham has a simple but interesting history. It was officially recognized as a community when a post office opened there in 1880.
How Gillingham Got Its Name
The community was named after a person named John Gillingham. He was an important figure who encouraged Hugh Morrow to move to the area. Hugh Morrow later became the first postmaster of Gillingham, helping to establish the community.
