Gipsy is a small, unincorporated community located in the western part of Bollinger County, Missouri, United States. It's not a city with its own government, but rather a group of homes and businesses without official borders. You can find Gipsy on Missouri Supplemental Route E, about fourteen miles southwest of a town called Marble Hill. It's also near a stream known as Lick Log Creek.

Why is it Called Gipsy?

The name "Gipsy" was chosen by a man named J.C. Montgomery. He applied to open a post office there in 1908. Mr. Montgomery and his large family moved to the area around 1900 or 1902. They traveled all the way from Tennessee in a covered wagon, much like pioneers. When they arrived, they camped at an old school ground. Because of their unique way of traveling and settling, the local people started calling the Montgomerys "gipsys." When J.C. Montgomery needed a name for the new post office, he decided to use that nickname.

Where is Gipsy Located?

Gipsy is part of a larger area known as the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri, and Illinois. This means it's included in the region that connects these cities and their surrounding communities for things like population studies and economic planning.
