About Glade Springs
History and Development
Glade Springs was started in 1973. It was first built for people who owned coal mines in the area and had a lot of money. Over the years, its success and ownership changed along with the coal industry. The resort has faced financial challenges several times.
What You'll Find There
Today, Glade Springs is split into two main parts. The "old" section has a club, two golf courses, and a hotel with 200 rooms and restaurants. Many homes built in the 1970s and 1980s are also in this part. This section is owned by a company called GSR, LLC.
The "new" section is mostly woodland right now. The plan is to build new homes and more fun places there in the future. Another company, EMCO Hospitality, Inc., has helped run the resort since 2003.
Events and Activities
Since 2015, Glade Springs has hosted the Concours d'Elegance (CDI). This is a fancy car show where beautiful classic cars are displayed and judged.
Getting to Glade Springs
Glade Springs is easy to reach from major highways. You can get there from Exit 28 on I-77 or Exit 125 from I-64. There have been efforts to make the main road, Route 19, wider, which helps people get to the resort. There were also plans to build a new road directly to Glade Springs, but these plans did not happen due to legal issues.
