Glen Macnow facts for kids
Glen Harry Macnow (born April 23, 1955) is an American sports talk radio host. He is well-known for his show on 94 WIP in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Early Life and Career
Glen Macnow was born in New York City on April 23, 1955, and grew up in Buffalo, New York. He went to Boston University for college.
After college, Glen started his career as a newspaper writer. He worked in places like Cocoa Beach, Florida, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Detroit, Michigan. In 1986, he joined The Philadelphia Inquirer, a big newspaper in Philadelphia. In 1993, a magazine called Philadelphia named him "The Best Sportswriter in Philadelphia."
Glen is sometimes called "The Prof" or "The Professor." This is because he teaches at St. Joseph's University. He is married to his wife, Judy, and they have two sons, Ted and Alex.
A Prolific Writer
Glen Macnow has written many books, especially for young readers. Most of his children's books are about sports heroes.
He has also written several popular books about Philadelphia sports:
- In 2003, he wrote The Great Philadelphia Fan Book with Anthony Gargano. This book is about the passionate sports fans of Philadelphia and their four main professional teams.
- In 2004, he co-authored The Great Philadelphia Sports Debate with Angelo Cataldi.
- In 2006, he teamed up with Edward Gudonis, also known as Big Daddy Graham, to write The Great Book of Philadelphia Sports Lists.
- In 2009, Glen co-authored The Ultimate Book of Sports Movies with Ray Didinger. This book even had a special introduction written by famous actor Gene Hackman.
- In 2019, Glen and Big Daddy Graham released an updated version of The Great Book of Philadelphia Sports Lists. This new edition included exciting recent Philadelphia sports wins. These included the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies season when they won the World Series. It also covered the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles season when they won Super Bowl LII.
Beyond Sports
Glen Macnow is known for more than just sports. He hosts special shows like the "Movie Club for Men" during the summer. He also has an annual "food hunt" where he searches for the best of a certain food. These foods are often things like burgers, pizza, ribs, or cheesesteaks in the Delaware Valley area.
He also co-hosts a TV show called "What's Brewing" with Lew Bryson. On this show, they visit local breweries and stores that sell beer. They talk about different types of beer available throughout the year. The show is shown weekly on NBC Sports Philadelphia networks.
In 2016, Glen Macnow was honored and added to the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
In the summer of 2024, Glen announced he would be leaving WIP-FM after working there for 31 years. His last show was on July 13th.
Besides his work in media, Glen Macnow enjoys acting. He has performed in plays and on screen. He is also a part-owner of the Conshohocken Brewing Company.
