The Glen River (also known as rivière Glen in French) is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Chaudière River, which then empties into the huge St. Lawrence River. Think of it as a water highway, with the Glen River being a smaller road connecting to a bigger one!
Where the Glen River Flows
The Glen River starts as a mountain stream in Nantes. It then winds its way through the town of Sainte-Cécile-de-Whitton. Both these places are in a region of Quebec called Le Granit Regional County Municipality, which is part of the larger Estrie area. So, the river travels through some beautiful parts of Quebec!
How Long is the Glen River?
The Glen River is about 14.4 kilometers (or about 9 miles) long. It begins high up, at an elevation of 464 meters (about 1,522 feet). As it flows, it drops down to 378 meters (about 1,240 feet) where it meets the Chaudière River. This drop in elevation helps the water flow quickly!
What's in a Name?
The name "Glen River" was officially recognized on October 19, 1971. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This commission is like a special group that makes sure all the names of places in Quebec are properly recorded and used.
