Glenavy is a small town located in the South Island of New Zealand. It sits at the very southern edge of the Canterbury region. The town is near where the Waitaki River flows into the Pacific Ocean, about three kilometres away.
Glenavy got its name from a place called Glenavy in Northern Ireland. This was the birthplace of John Ballance, who used to be a leader of New Zealand (called a Premier back then).
