The Glenburn Hotel is a famous hotel found on Glenburn Road in Rothesay, Scotland. It's a very old and special building. It is officially known as a Category B listed building. This means it's important for its history and architecture. The hotel first opened its doors in 1843.

It was originally called Glenburn Hydropathic. This means it was Scotland's first "spa" hotel. People would visit to relax and use water treatments for their health. A tall brick chimney nearby helped power the laundry and heating systems.

A Grand Rebuilding

In 1892, a fire damaged the original building. But the hotel was quickly rebuilt even grander than before. Workers used a special type of smooth, cut stone called ashlar for the new walls. This made the hotel look very impressive.

The Hydro's History

The Glenburn Hotel has 121 bedrooms. Many people, especially older generations, know it as "the Hydro." This nickname comes from its early days as a hydropathic spa. It shows how important water treatments were to the hotel's history.

Recent Changes

The Glenburn Hotel got a big makeover in 2016. It was closed in November 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hotel staff were temporarily not working during this time. In March 2022, a new hotel group called Bespoke Hotels bought the Glenburn.
