Playing in Major League Baseball
Glenn Braggs started his professional baseball journey when the Milwaukee Brewers picked him in the 1983 MLB Draft. He made his first appearance in a major league game on July 18, 1986. In that game, he got his first hit off pitcher Joaquin Andujar. He hit his first of 70 career home runs on August 2, 1986.
His best season in MLB was in 1989. That year, he hit 15 home runs and had 66 runs batted in (RBI). He also stole 17 bases and had a batting average of .247.
Joining the Cincinnati Reds
In June 1990, the Reds traded for Braggs from the Brewers. He quickly became an important player for the Reds. He helped them reach the National League playoffs. In 1990, he hit six home runs and had 28 RBI for the Reds. His batting average was .299 that season.
Big Plays and the World Series
During the 1990 National League Championship Series, Braggs made an amazing play. In a very close game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he caught a long fly ball that could have been a home run. He crashed into the wall to make the catch, saving the game for the Reds. This helped the Reds advance to the World Series.
The Reds then faced the Oakland Athletics in the 1990 World Series. Even though the Athletics were favored to win, the Reds surprised everyone. They won the World Series, and Glenn Braggs was a part of that winning team.
Braggs played two more seasons for the Reds. His final MLB game was on September 10, 1992. In his very last time at bat in MLB, he hit a home run!
Amazing Bat Strength
Glenn Braggs was known for his incredible upper body strength. He once broke a bat just by stopping his swing! He put so much force on the bat to stop it that it snapped above the handle. The bat didn't even touch the ball. In another famous moment during the 1990 World Series, he swung so hard that his bat broke on his follow-through after hitting the ball.
Life After Baseball
After his baseball career, Glenn Braggs became a real estate agent in the Los Angeles area. He is also a vegan, meaning he does not eat meat or animal products.
Glenn Braggs was married to Cindy Herron, a singer from the R&B group En Vogue. They have four children together.
