Glenn Dakin was born in 1960. He is a British cartoonist and a writer of books for children. He created the Candle Man book series. Glenn also worked on many British comics magazines. These included Escape and Deadline. He was also part of the British small press comics scene in the 1980s. His most famous creations are Temptation and Abe. The Abe comic strip is partly based on his own life.

Glenn Dakin's Career Journey
Starting in Comics
While at college in Manchester, Glenn Dakin was drawing his comic strip Abe. He met Paul Gravett there. Paul taught him about making and sharing comics himself. This was done using small, homemade magazines called zines. These zines were sent out by mail. At first, Glenn wasn't sure about it. But soon, he became very interested. He started writing to other cartoonists like Eddie Campbell and Phil Elliott. Glenn has said that Tove Jansson's Moomin comics and books inspired him. He liked the hopeful but sometimes sad feeling in her work.
Working on Famous Comics
Glenn Dakin's work first appeared in pssst! in 1982. When Paul Gravett started Escape Magazine, Glenn became a regular writer and artist. He also had comic strips in an Australian collection called Fox Comics. By the late 1980s, he was publishing comics through Harrier Comics. These included Paris, The Man of Plaster and the collection Gag!. He also helped create and draw Sinister Romance with Woodrow Phoenix.
His comic Temptation was inspired by Krazy Kat and B.C.. Temptation appeared in Escape and later in Deadline magazine. It was later released as a book by Penguin Books in 1991. Glenn also worked with Phil Elliott on many comic strips. These included Mr Day and Mr Night and Greenhouse Warriors.
Writing for Marvel UK
Glenn Dakin also worked for Marvel UK for a while. There, he wrote comics like ClanDestine and The Real Ghostbusters.
Collecting His Works
His Abe comic strips were put together into a book in 2001. This book was called Abe: Wrong For All The Right Reasons. Temptation was re-released in 2004. Both books have introductions written by Eddie Campbell.
Current Projects
Glenn Dakin continues to write children's books today. He also helps create and write children's television shows for the BBC. He has a regular comic strip called Robot Crusoe. You can find Robot Crusoe in The Sunday Times newspaper.

Glenn Dakin has inspired many American cartoonists. Especially those connected to the publisher Highwater Books. They have said that his ideas about comics greatly influenced their own work.
