Sir Godfrey Nicholson, 1st Baronet (born December 9, 1901 – died July 14, 1991) was a British politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Conservative Party. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the country's government.

Early Life and School Days

Godfrey Nicholson came from a family famous for making gin in London. His grandfather, William Nicholson, was also a politician. Godfrey went to a well-known school called Winchester College. Later, he studied at Christ Church, Oxford university, finishing his studies in 1925.

His Time in Politics and the Army

In 1931, Godfrey Nicholson ran for election in an area called Morpeth and won. He served as the MP for Morpeth until 1935.

Two years later, in 1937, he won another election in Farnham. When World War II started in 1939, he joined the army. He served with a group called The Royal Fusiliers until 1942. After that, he was a captain in the Home Guard, which was a group of volunteers who helped protect Britain during the war. He once famously complained that giving the Home Guard spears (called pikes) instead of rifles was "an insult" if it wasn't a joke.

Family Life and Later Years

On March 20, 1958, Godfrey Nicholson was given the special title of a baronet. He stopped being a politician in 1966.

He married Lady Katharine Lindsay on June 30, 1936. Lady Katharine was the younger daughter of the 27th Earl of Crawford. They had four daughters:
