Gods of Manhattan is an exciting children's novel written by Scott Mebus. It was first published on April 17, 2008, by Dutton Penguin. This book tells the story of a young boy who finds a secret city. This hidden city exists right alongside Manhattan, but most people can't see it!
What is Gods of Manhattan About?
The story is all about Rory Hennessy, a 13-year-old boy. He suddenly gains a special power: he can see Mannahatta. Mannahatta is a secret "spirit city" that exists right next to Manhattan. A mysterious magician helps Rory discover this amazing gift.
Who Lives in Mannahatta?
Mannahatta is filled with famous people from history and legends. Imagine seeing Babe Ruth, the famous baseball player, or Alexander Hamilton, one of America's founding fathers! These people were so well-remembered that they became immortal gods in Mannahatta.
The city is also home to the Munsees and special papier-mache children. The powerful gods of Mannahatta rule over these groups.
Rory's Big Adventure
The main problem in the story starts when some of the Munsees are captured. They are held prisoner in Central Park, which is a real place in Manhattan. Rory knows he has to help them. He must find a way to free the Munsees from their captivity. This leads him on a thrilling adventure through both the visible Manhattan and the hidden Mannahatta.
