Godwin Elliot Loraine Friday, born on September 28, 1959, is an important politician from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. He is currently the Leader of the Opposition in his country. This means he leads the main political party that is not in power. He is also a Member of Parliament for the Northern Grenadines area and the President of the New Democratic Party.
Godwin Friday was first elected to the House of Assembly on March 28, 2001. He represents the Northern Grenadines area. He has been re-elected several times, winning elections in 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020.
Education and Studies
Godwin Friday studied at universities in Canada. He earned a degree in history and political science from the University of Waterloo. He also studied law at Queen's University. Later, he earned a master's degree in history in 1985. In 1989, he completed his studies with a doctorate in political studies.
Leading the Opposition
In 2016, the previous leader of his party, Arnhim Eustace, stepped down. Godwin Friday then became the new leader of the New Democratic Party. He also took on the role of Leader of the Opposition. This means he leads the political group that challenges the government in power.
