Gojal Tehsil (Urdu: تحصیل گوجل), also known as Upper Hunza, is a large area in the northern part of Pakistan. It is located in the Gilgit District of Gilgit-Baltistan, a beautiful mountainous region. Gojal is special because it sits very close to the border with China.
This region is made up of many small and large valleys. Gojal shares its borders with the Hunza region to the south. To the north and east, it borders China, and to the northwest, it borders Afghanistan. The first village you reach when entering Gojal is called Shishkat. Most of Gojal's villages can be seen easily if you are traveling on the famous Karakoram Highway. However, some valleys like Shimshal, Misgar, and Chipursan are a bit hidden and not directly visible from the main road.
Traveling Through Gojal: The Karakoram Highway
The famous Karakoram Highway, often called the KKH, is a major road that goes right through Gojal. This highway is very important because it connects Pakistan to China. It crosses the border at a high mountain pass called Khunjerab Pass. In the future, this road might also help connect Pakistan with other countries in Central Asia, such as Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.
