A Look at Golden's History

Golden was first planned and mapped out in 1866. Back then, it had a different name: Keokuk Junction.

The village officially became a recognized town on March 5, 1867. The very first local election was held soon after, on April 1 of the same year.

The name changed to Golden in 1881. It's thought that the village was renamed after a local hotel called the Hotel Golden.
