Golden Beach is a lovely community located in St. Mary's County, Maryland, in the United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined for gathering census information. In 2020, about 3,651 people lived here.
Golden Beach is a small neighborhood with its own private beach. It's part of the larger area known as Mechanicsville. A famous resident from the 1960s, singer Ronnie Dove, once lived in Golden Beach.
Early History of Golden Beach
The land where Golden Beach now stands has a long history. Back in 1677, a part of this area, about 50 acres, was a large farm called "The Fishing Place." This land was given to a man named Thomas Lamar. Even though he owned other farms, "The Fishing Place" was his favorite home.
The first official survey of Lamar's land near Trent Creek happened in 1676. A special document, called a land grant, from the Maryland archives shows how the land was given to him. It was signed by Charles, who was the Lord and owner of Maryland at the time. The document said that Thomas Lamar would own the land forever, as long as he paid a small rent each year. This grant was made on April 5, 1677.
