Golden Films was an American company that made animated movies. It was started in 1988 by Diane Eskenazi. This studio created many different animated films. Their most famous movies were part of the Enchanted Tales series. These films were first shared by Sony Wonder.
During the 1990s, Golden Films became known for making many movies that went straight to video. These films were often based on classic fairy tales and stories. Other big studios were also making expensive movies from the same stories around the same time.
For example, The Walt Disney Company sued one of Golden Films' distributors. This happened because Disney's popular movies were competing with Golden Films' less expensive versions. Both companies used stories that were in the public domain. This means the stories were old enough that no one owned the rights to them. Because of this, Disney did not win the lawsuit. After the 1990s, Golden Films stopped making new animated movies. However, they continued to share their existing films with other companies.

Animated Films by Golden Films
Golden Films released many movies based on stories that are free for anyone to use. They also made some original stories. Often, Golden Films' movies came out shortly after or during the production of bigger movies by major studios. These major studio films were usually based on the same popular stories.
Classic Stories and Fairy Tales
In 1992, Golden Films released several movies. These included Aladdin, Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and The Three Musketeers. These films were released around the same time as similar big studio productions. For example, Walt Disney Pictures made The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. Sullivan Bluth Studios also made Thumbelina.
Other movies from Golden Films based on classic stories include Sinbad, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Hercules. They also made films like The Wizard of Oz, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Jungle Book, Snow White, Peter Rabbit, and Treasure Island.
Historical Figures and Original Stories
Golden Films also created movies about real people from history. These include Pocahontas and Anastasia. The company also made films based on their own new stories. Some of these were The Great Easter Egg Hunt, The Jungle King, The Legend of Atlantis, and The Secret Treasure of Machu Picchu.
Sharing Golden Films' Movies
Golden Films' movies were shared by many different companies. In the United States, companies like Sony Wonder, Hallmark, and GoodTimes Entertainment helped distribute them. Around the world, companies such as Grupo Planeta and Polygram Video also distributed their films.
In some releases in the United Kingdom, British voice actors were used instead of the original American voices. These versions were shared by Universal Pictures UK, often with Right Entertainment or Tartan Video. Before that, VCI also distributed them.
