History of Goldfield

Goldfield got its name a long time ago. A post office opened here in 1856. The area was first named after a pioneer settler called Brassfield. However, people thought "Goldfield" sounded much better. So, the name was changed to Goldfield.

Goldfield is located in the state of Iowa. You can find it along the Boone River. The city covers a total area of about 1.19 square miles (3.04 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside the city limits.

In 2020, the city of Goldfield had 634 residents. There were 269 households living in the city. The population density was about 539 people per square mile. Goldfield's Economy

Goldfield has a growing economy, especially in renewable energy. In 2006, a large ethanol plant was built here. This plant can produce 50 million gallons of ethanol each year. This big project cost $86 million and created about 40 new jobs for the community. There were even plans to make the plant produce twice as much ethanol.

Another company is planning to build a biodiesel plant near Goldfield. This new project is expected to bring 30 more jobs to the area. Goldfield also has an industrial park, which is a special area for businesses. It covers 10 acres and is located east of the city on Highway 3.

Education in Goldfield

Students in Goldfield attend schools within the Clarion–Goldfield–Dows Community School District. This district was formed through several mergers over the years.

Goldfield used to have its own school district. From 1912 to 1981, the Goldfield Community School provided education for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. A new school building was built in Goldfield in 1956.

In 1981, Goldfield Community School started sharing classes with Clarion Community Schools. This meant high school students from Goldfield went to Clarion High School for some classes. Later, middle school students also joined them in Clarion.

In 1993, the Goldfield and Clarion school districts officially merged. They became the Clarion–Goldfield Community School District. An elementary school program continued in Goldfield for younger students. In 2002, all 3rd-grade students in the district attended classes in Goldfield. However, the Goldfield school building closed in 2008, and all students began attending classes in Clarion.

In 2014, the Clarion–Goldfield district merged again with the Dows Community School District. This created the current Clarion–Goldfield–Dows Community School District. In the 2018–19 school year, this district had 943 students.
