Goldville's Mining Story
Goldville has a history tied to mining. It was once a busy place where people hoped to find valuable minerals.
How Goldville Began
The Goldville District was started by two prospectors in 1907. Prospectors are people who search for valuable minerals like gold or silver. They found a mine that became known as the Lynn Big Six Mine.
In its first year, the mine produced about $21,000 worth of ore. Ore is rock that contains valuable minerals. This ore was then sent to Salt Lake City to be processed.
Boom and Bust
By 1908, the valuable ore in the mine started to run out. This meant there wasn't enough to make mining profitable. Because of this, many miners left Goldville.
However, in 1912, the Lynn Big Six Mining Company decided to reopen the mine. They started shipping ore to Salt Lake City again. A year later, a small camp grew around the mine, and a post office was opened. This shows that more people were living and working there.
The End of Mining
The post office in Goldville closed in 1917. Even though the post office closed, the mining company kept working for a while. But over time, the amount of valuable minerals in the ore kept getting smaller.
Finally, in 1939, all mining activities in Goldville stopped completely. This is why Goldville became a ghost town.
