The Goler Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is a very old and important church building. People also call it Old Goler. It is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Patterson Avenue. This church is a special place for the African Methodist Episcopal Zion community.

A Look at the Church Building

This church was built a long time ago, between 1918 and 1919. It is made of brick and has a unique style called Late Gothic Revival. Imagine a grand, old-fashioned church with tall windows and strong shapes.

What Makes It Special?

The church has a main front part with a pointed roof. On each side, there are two square brick towers that stand tall. You can also see beautiful stained glass windows, which let colorful light into the building. In 1946, a two-story addition was built next to the main church.

A New Church Forms

In 1942, some members of the Goler Memorial Church decided to start a new church. This new church became known as the Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church. It was a way for the community to grow and have more places to worship.

The Goler Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is recognized as a very important historical site. It was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 26, 1998. This means it is protected and valued for its history and architecture. It helps us remember the past and the important role it played in the community.
