Kim Dong-hyun (Hangul: 김동현), known by his stage name Gong Myung (Hangul: 공명), is a popular South Korean actor. He was born on May 26, 1994. He is also a member of the actor group 5urprise. Gong Myung is well-known for his roles in TV shows like Be Melodramatic (2019) and Lovers of the Red Sky (2021). He also starred in the very successful movie Extreme Job (2019).

Acting Career Highlights

Gong Myung started his acting journey in 2013. His first role was in a web series called After School: Lucky or Not. He acted alongside other members of 5urprise, a group of actors from the company Fantagio.

Early Roles and TV Shows

After his debut, Gong Myung took on supporting roles in several TV dramas. These included the historical drama Splendid Politics (2015) on MBC. He also appeared in the romantic comedy Entertainer (2017) on SBS. Another notable role was in the tvN romantic comedy Drinking Solo (2016). In 2016, he also joined the reality show We Got Married with actress Jung Hye-sung.

In 2017, Gong Myung played a main role in a two-episode drama called The Happy Loner on KBS2. That same year, he acted as Bi-ryeom, a god, in the fantasy drama The Bride of Habaek. He also played Kwon Jae-hoon in the tvN drama Revolutionary Love.

Big Screen Success

A major moment in Gong Myung's career was the 2019 action-comedy film Extreme Job. He played Jae-hoon, the youngest detective on a special team. This movie was a huge hit in South Korea. It sold over 10 million tickets in just 15 days. It is one of the most-watched films in South Korean history. For his performance, Gong Myung was nominated for "Best New Actor" six times and won two of those awards. Later in 2019, he also appeared in the historical film Homme Fatale and the JTBC TV series Be Melodramatic.

In April 2020, Gong Myung joined a new management company, Saram Entertainment. His contract with his previous company, Fantagio, had ended.

Recent Projects

In 2021, Gong Myung starred in the historical-fantasy drama Lovers of the Red Sky on SBS. He played Grand Prince Yangmyeong, a prince who loved painting, calligraphy, and poetry. Later that year, he became a cast member of the travel show House on Wheels (Season 3) on tvN.

In 2022, he appeared as Commander Yi Eokgi in the war action film Hansan: Rising Dragon. In 2025, he played the main character in the TVing series Way Back Love.

Personal Life

Gong Myung has a younger brother named Kim Dong-young. His brother is known as Doyoung and is a member of the popular boy group NCT.

Military Service

In South Korea, men must complete mandatory military service. Gong Myung began his service on December 14, 2021. He completed his service and was discharged on June 13, 2023.
