Gonzalo Sebastián Vargas Abella (born September 22, 1981) is a former professional football player from Uruguay. He played as a striker, which means his main job was to score goals for his team. He finished his career playing for Rampla Juniors.
People often called Gonzalo Vargas Turbo. He earned this nickname because he was very fast. He was known for his quick dribbling and speedy runs on the football field.
Football Career
Playing for Clubs
Gonzalo Vargas started his football journey in Uruguay. He played for Defensor Sporting from 2002 to 2004. After that, he moved to Argentina to play for Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata between 2005 and 2006.
In 2007, Vargas moved to Europe. He joined AS Monaco and was later loaned to FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in France. In 2008, he went to Mexico to play for F.C. Atlas. He was given the number 9 jersey as a new forward for the team.
He returned to Argentina in 2010 to play for Argentinos Juniors on loan. Later, he played for Gimnasia de La Plata again. Towards the end of his career, he played for Bella Vista and Rampla Juniors in Uruguay.
Playing for Uruguay
Gonzalo Vargas also represented his home country, Uruguay, on the international stage. He played for the national team 10 times. During these matches, he managed to score 3 goals for Uruguay.
