The Goodfella's brand was created in 1993 by a company called Green Isle Foods Ltd. This company was based in Naas, Ireland. Back in the early 1990s, there weren't many types of frozen food available in the UK and Ireland. Most frozen options were things like fish fingers or chips.
A big company called Birds Eye provided most of the frozen food. When Goodfella's launched, it was exciting because it brought the very first frozen pizza to the market. This gave people a new, easy meal option.
Changes in Ownership
Green Isle Foods Ltd was founded in Ireland in 1982. It grew to employ many people. In 1995, another company called Northern Foods bought Green Isle Foods. Northern Foods also owned other well-known brands like Fox's Biscuits.
Later, in 2011, a large company named 2 Sisters Food Group bought Northern Foods. This meant Goodfella's became part of the 2 Sisters Food Group. Then, in April 2018, the Goodfella's pizza part of the business was sold again.
A company called Nomad Foods bought the frozen pizza division. Nomad Foods is based in the UK and was formed in 2015. They own many famous frozen food brands, including Birds Eye, Findus, and Aunt Bessie's.
