You can only find it growing naturally in Utah, USA, especially in Duchesne County. This means it is endemic to that area, so it doesn't grow anywhere else in the world!

Goodrich's blazingstar is a type of plant that lives for many years. It grows in clumps with white, branching stems. These stems can reach about 30 centimeters (about 12 inches) tall. That's roughly the length of a school ruler!

This plant has beautiful flowers. Each plant usually has 1 to 3 flowers. Each flower has 10 large, bright yellow petals. They bloom, or open up, in July. Imagine seeing these bright yellow flowers against the Utah landscape!

Where Does It Grow?

You can find Goodrich's blazingstar in only five known spots. These spots are on the Badland Cliffs in northeastern Utah. It likes to grow on white shale rock. Shale is a type of soft rock that breaks easily. These rocks are part of something called the Green River Formation.

Goodrich's blazingstar grows alongside other plants and trees. You might see it near pine trees and Douglas-fir trees. It shares its home with these other plants in the unique Utah environment.
