Goose Creek is a river found in the northern part of Manitoba, Canada. It is a smaller river that flows into a much larger one, the Nelson River. The water from Goose Creek eventually makes its way to Hudson Bay.
About Goose Creek
Goose Creek starts from an unnamed lake. From there, it flows until it joins the Nelson River. When it enters the Nelson River, it comes in from the left side. This means it's a "left tributary" of the Nelson River.
Where Does the Water Go?
Goose Creek is part of a huge area called the Hudson Bay drainage basin. Think of a drainage basin like a giant funnel. All the rain and melted snow that falls in this area eventually flows into rivers and streams. These rivers then carry the water to a larger body of water. For Goose Creek, all its water eventually ends up in Hudson Bay.
Crossing the Creek
Even though Goose Creek is not a very long river, it plays a role in local travel.
- The river flows under the Hudson Bay Railway. This railway is used by the Via Rail Winnipeg – Churchill train.
- The railway crosses Goose Creek between two small settlements. These are Weir River to the north and Charlebois to the south. This crossing is quite close to where the creek begins.
- Further downstream, just before Goose Creek joins the Nelson River, it also flows under Manitoba Provincial Road 290. This road helps people travel through the area.
