His Honour Gordon Alchin (born January 1894 – died 14 May 1947) was a British poet, airman, and judge. He was also involved in politics as a member of the Liberal Party.

Early Life and Education

Gordon Alchin was born in January 1894 in Rusthall, Kent. His father was Alfred Head Alchin. Gordon went to Tonbridge School and then studied at Brasenose College, Oxford. His university studies were put on hold because of World War I. After the war ended in 1919, he went back to Oxford to finish his education. In 1924, he married Sylvia Wrensted. They had one son and one daughter. Sylvia passed away in 1939.

Military and Legal Career

Gordon Alchin served in World War I. From 1914 to 1915, he was a Second lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery in Flanders. In 1915, he joined the Royal Flying Corps and later served with the Australian Flying Corps until 1917.

After his military service, he became a lawyer. In 1922, he was called to the bar by Middle Temple, which meant he could practice law. He worked as a barrister, handling common law and commercial cases until 1940. During World War II, he joined the Royal Air Force Voluntary Reserve. From 1940 to 1945, he served as a County Court judge in Edmonton. He then became a County Court judge in Bow in 1945 and served there until his death.

Political Involvement

Gordon Alchin was a candidate for the Liberal Party in the 1929 General Election. He ran for parliament in the Tonbridge area of Kent. Even though it was a difficult seat for the Liberal Party, he managed to increase their number of votes and secure second place. He did not run for parliament again after this election.

Writing and Poetry

Besides his work as a lawyer and judge, Gordon Alchin also enjoyed writing. He wrote both poetry and short stories. He was one of the poets whose work was included in "The Muse in Arms." This was a special collection of British war poetry published in November 1917, during World War I.
