Gordon S. Earle was born on February 27, 1943. He is a Canadian politician. Mr. Earle is a member of the New Democratic Party. He used to be a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone elected to represent a specific area in the House of Commons of Canada. He represented the area called Halifax West from 1997 to 2000. Gordon Earle made history as the first Black Member of Parliament elected from Nova Scotia.

Gordon Earle's Public Service Career
Before becoming an MP, Gordon Earle worked for the government. He was the very first employee of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. This group helps make sure everyone is treated fairly.
He also worked as the Chief Human Rights Officer. Later, he was an assistant to the Ombudsman in Nova Scotia. An Ombudsman is like a public helper. They investigate complaints from citizens about government actions. Mr. Earle also served as the Ombudsman for the province of Manitoba.
Time in Parliament
While in Parliament, Gordon Earle was a "critic" for his party. This means he was the main spokesperson for the New Democratic Party on certain topics. He spoke about Multiculturalism, which is about different cultures living together. He also covered Citizenship and Immigration.
Other areas he focused on included Indigenous Affairs and Northern Development. He also spoke about National Defence and Veterans Affairs. These are important topics for Canada.
Gordon Earle lost his seat in the 2000 Canadian federal election. This means he was not re-elected by the voters.
Later Elections
After 2000, Gordon Earle ran for Parliament again several times. In the 2004 election, he ran in a new area. This area was called South Shore—St. Margaret's. Part of his old riding, Halifax West, had moved into this new area. He did not win this election.
He tried again in the 2006 election. He lost to the same person, Gerald Keddy, but he got more votes this time. Mr. Earle ran against Mr. Keddy a third time in the 2008 election. He lost by a very small number of votes. Gordon Earle also ran in the 2011 federal election, but he did not win.
Gordon Earle's Personal Life
Gordon Earle is a martial artist. He has a black belt in Karate. He even started his own Karate club. It was called the Hammonds Plains Karate Club.
