Gordon Parks Jr. was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1934. His parents were Sally Alvis and the famous photographer and director Gordon Parks. His father, Gordon Parks Sr., was a very talented artist. He was known for his photography and for directing movies.
A Director's Path
Gordon Parks Jr. decided to follow in his father's footsteps. He became a film director, just like his dad. His father had already found success with a popular movie called Shaft in 1971. Gordon Parks Jr. then directed his most well-known film, Super Fly, in 1972. This movie became very popular.
Tragic End
Sadly, Gordon Parks Jr. passed away at the age of 44. He was in Nairobi, Kenya, working on a new film. His small airplane crashed shortly after taking off. Three other people were also on the plane and died in the accident.
