Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Gore is a small, quiet place in the southwestern part of Warren County, in the state of Missouri, USA. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.

Gore is located on the northern edge of the beautiful Missouri River Valley. This area is famous for its scenic views and the mighty Missouri River flowing nearby.

Getting Around Gore

A main road called Missouri Route 94 passes just north of Gore. This road helps people travel to and from the community.

Right by Gore, you'll also find the famous Katy Trail. This trail is a very long path built on an old railroad line. It's popular for biking, walking, and enjoying nature.

Just south of Gore, a water channel called the Loutre Slough flows into the Missouri River. A "slough" is a slow-moving channel of water, often found in swampy or marshy areas.

A Look Back: Gore's History

Gore has a bit of history, even though it's a small community. A post office was opened in Gore way back in 1894. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages for many years. It stayed open until 1953.

It's a bit of a mystery why this community was named "Gore." No one is quite sure how it got its name!
